Cleaning is also important if you want to keep your ants and your art farm in good condition. You have to periodically remove remains of old, accumulated food and other wastes so you can clearly observe your pets. To do this without disturbing the ants, use forceps.

When handling ants, your best bet would be to use an aspirator. This way, you won’t have to handle them, increasing the danger of crushing them by accident. Aspirators gently suck your ants through the use of soft forceps, and place them into a vial.

If you are fortunate enough to get a queen ant, remember that it will reproduce and you will have young ants to take care of as well. But if you were able to obtain only workers, these will not reproduce. There are some species where workers lay eggs, which will turn into males.
